Hushpuppy and Tatertot!

For the last couple of days, we have been spending time with my brother’s family, Matt’s brother, and a set of honorary siblings. We do not see them enough. We convened in NC for the US Open and some catching up.

Hushpuppy has been bonding with his slightly older cousin, Tatertot. They have discovered a mutual love of playgrounds, bubbles, ice cream, throwing things, and coloring (especially on each other). Tatertot has also decided that I am “Aunt Silly.” I’ll take it.

While the crew was at the Open yesterday, the boys and I explored Apex. Originally, I was going to go with with them, and my Mom was going to take the boys. But, since Dad is healing up (and doing well), our plans changed. I don’t golf. I couldn’t bring a camera in. And, it is a long, hot day at Pinehurst. Playing with toddlers was a fun, albeit exhausting, alternative.

Today, my lovely sister-in-law is joining us. We’re in for a day of adventures and shenanigans with Puppy and Tot! I’ll take lots of pictures of the ensuing silliness.

A Belated Last Day on BHI

We took it easy on our last island day. A lazy breakfast, a little World Cup watching, and a few good hikes. During the Civil War, BHI was the home for a Confederate fort, Fort Holmes. It’s purpose was keeping the Port of Wilmington open, while the US attempted to blockade it. Most of the earthenwork fort is gone now. But, you can still hike along its outline.

After exploring the remains of Ft. Holmes, we visited a tract of beach on the ocean side. We happened across a freighter who was going out to sea.

Hushpuppy took the middle image. I like it.

We packed, let Puppy take a good nap, and headed to “the Club” for dinner. Dinner was surprisingly good- and the service and company was exceptional. Hushpuppy wrapped up his stay with a romp on the driving range.
