Island Life

This is day three on Bald Head Island. BHI is a private island with lots of (lovely) rules. No cars. Respect wildlife. Breathe. We’re enjoying the simple (albeit slightly bourgeois) life.

Our condo isn’t on the ocean. Instead, we’re on salt marsh. Our screened porch has one heck of a view. Bambino loves watching the ibises.

Yesterday, my Zia and Zio from NC came to visit. They came bearing local veg, golden tilefish, home brew, and other goodies. We spent the day exploring BHI. The BHI Conservancy Center was a hit with Bambino. Plus, Zia and Zio are the family marine science experts. We learned a lot. And, Bambino likes turtles.

Touch Tanks are also cool.

After a swim in the ocean, we were treated to a fantastic, and uber-local, dinner. The company was even better.

Today, we wrapped up Zia and Zio’s visit with a hike through the maritime forest and salt marsh trails. Bambino had to lead the way.

We also made some new friends.

We’re planning on heading back to the trails for more birding later this week.

Bambino is having a great time, and we’re having a much-needed break.
